Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has thrown more doubt into the air regarding left-back Ashley Cole’s future by claiming that he doesn’t know whether or not he will get more game time this season.

Cole, who has been The Blues’ number-one left-back for several years now, has lost his place in the starting XI under Mourinho so far due to him picking natural right-back Cesar Azpilicueta, and putting him at left-back instead.

The 33-year-old is out of contract in the Summer, and despite admitting a few weeks ago that a new offer will be on the table for the Englishman, Mourinho has refused to put him straight back into the starting team.

When asked about more games for Cole, Mourinho replied with: “I don’t know. I’m happy with the way Azpilicueta is performing.”

The lack of first-team football for Chelsea has put Cole’s place in the Summer World Cup in doubt, but his club manager has refused to talk about Roy Hodgson’s choices.

“I cannot think of national teams at the same time as thinking about my team,” said Mourinho.

“There are national team managers that are very clear: they go with their players.

“It doesn’t matter if their players are playing in the club, if they are not playing, they go with their players.

“All these years as a club manager, I found lots of them like this.”
