Jose Mourinho tells goalkeeper to ‘stay and fight’

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has told goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois to stay at Chelsea next season and fight for the number-one shirt alongside Petr Cech.

The Belgium shot-stopper revealed last week that Mourinho had been in touch with him regarding his future, and he told reporters that no decision had been made due to him focusing entirely on this Summer’s World Cup in Brazil.

However, it has now been reported that Mourinho urged Courtois to stay at Stamford Bridge next season and battle it out with Cech to be his number-one.

Recent reports have suggested that neither of the two ‘keepers are willing to be backup or ‘cup goalies’, and it’s left Mourinho with a serious decision to make on whether to sell one or persuade them both to stay.

Cech has been linked with a Summer switch to Paris Saint-Germain, whilst Courtois is wanted permanently by Atletico Madrid, the club he has been with for three years now.

Some officials at Chelsea want to see Courtois go out on loan one more time, before coming to permanent number-one in the 2015/2016 season, but Mourinho has personally asked the shot-stopper to stay in England and challenge Cech.
