Jurgen Klopp has criticised both Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane for being too selfish with the ball.

Liverpool crashed to their second defeat of the season to Napoli at the Stadio San Paolo. Lorenzo Insigne netted the winner in the 90th minutes as the Reds remain winless in their last three matches in all competitions.

Klopp’s return to Italy was expected to be a much coveted affair this time. Last time the English side had visited the country they were in the semifinal of the Champions League and routed AS Roma in a convincing manner.

But against Carlo Ancelotti’s side, Liverpool probably played their worst 90minutes of football this season. The Reds failed to aim a single shot at the Liverpool goal and later Klopp hits out at Firmino and Mane for taking too much time with the ball.

“The formation was not right, we moved in the wrong spaces, for the three midfielders the job was nearly impossible.

“With the ball we were to hectic when there was no reason to be hectic.

“Sometimes Bobby [Firmino] ran too long with the ball, or Sadio [Mane] ran too long. When that happens, you cannot produce.

“The midfielders or the full-backs tried to go forward, but we lost the ball and had to go back in the other direction.

“It was intense, but we caused the intensity of the game ourselves. ‘It was an interesting looking group before we started and it’s still interesting now. We want to play better than we did tonight, but even if we don’t play brilliantly, we want a result. ‘Tonight we weren’t as good as we could be.”
