Manager praises goalkeeper for performance vs Southampton
Jurgen Klopp has praised goalkeeper Loris Karius for a series of fine saves to keep Liverpool in the tie during their 1-0 defeat away at Southampton last night.
Karius has come under criticism for his performances in a Liverpool shirt so far this season, but last night was his best so far, as he pulled off 2 or 3 great saves that allowed Liverpool to keep the game within reach for the return leg at Anfield in 2 weeks time.
“After the goal we conceded our reaction was not good,” Klopp said. “We were not compact enough.
“Loris Karius had to save our life. It’s a deserved win for Southampton but it’s only half-time in the tie.”
Klopp acknowledged his side’s misgivings but, with the return leg at Anfield still to come, the Liverpool boss insisted the tie was still open.
“We lost timing,” Klopp told Sky Sports. “We weren’t compact enough. We can do much better.
“It was open and open games are difficult. Loris [Karius]Â had to save us a few times. It’s only half-time so all good.
“We should have been clearer in our passing. Everything is [still]Â possible for us so it’s okay.”Tonight we were not good enough over the whole 90 minutes but we can do better and nobody should think it’s already decided.”
