Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has claimed that Frank Lampard was booted out of Chelsea during the Summer.

The veteran’s contract expired at Stamford Bridge and it was decided by the club that they would not renew his deal, similar to the situation with Ashley Cole, and both the Englishmen moved on to different clubs, with Cole going to AS Roma, and Lampard joining New York City.

However, due to the American club not starting until next year, Lampard secured a short-term loan deal to Manchester City, who own the MLS club, and yesterday, he came back to haunt his former-club by denying them a massive 1-0 win at the Etihad Stadium.

An Andre Schurrle goal gave The Blues a 1-0 lead, but with just five minutes left, Lampard volleyed home an impressive equaliser.

After the game, Pellegrini criticised Chelsea for their treatment of Lampard.

Pellegrini said: “Chelsea didn’t want Frank Lampard, otherwise [he] would be playing for them.

“I told him to go and score. I was so sure he would play well against Chelsea because he is a very good professional.

“I am very happy for him. He has experience and he has quality.”
