The defender wants to remain a regular starter

Arsenal centre-half Laurent Koscielny has admitted he wants to stay at the Emirates Stadium for the foreseeable future.

The French international turns 30 tomorrow, but despite his age he insists that he is as fit as ever and wants to keep his place in the heart of the Gunners’ defence.

Koscielny has formed a formidable partnership with fellow centre-back Per Mertesacker since Arsene Wenger brought him in from Lorient in 2010.

‘when you are older you need to work harder’

The former Guingamp and Tours man claims that he has been working even harder in training to keep his game at the top level and maintain his fitness.

“Footballer or not, after 30 is a big part of your life. For a footballer it is important as you are closer to the end of your career than you are to the start,” suggested Koscielny.

He also added: “But I feel like a young man, I’m nearly 30 but my body is ready to play more games, just the age has changed.

I try to work hard and to be ready for training and the games and when you are older you need to work harder in training before the session and after.”
