Ligue 1 is the only league in the top 5 European leagues of football to have been terminated due to the CoVID-19 dangers.

PSG were declared as champions of France last month of Ligue 1. The French Football Federation thought it wisest to end the football season in the midst of a pandemic and hence the then-current standings were made into the final standings for the season.

However, a month later, safe or not, football is on the verge of ending its season in Germany, England, Spain and Italy. This has made Lille president Gerard Lopez speak out against FFF.

“Where we can all agree, and I am talking about the presidents, including those who recently changed their mind, is on the hyper-premature stoppage of the league season and the consequences, of which we don’t yet fully know. We keep saying that we are failing to catch up with the big four in Europe, that we don’t produce got results in European competitions. It is not by stopping our league before the others that we are going to put ourselves in a position of strength either. This is a catastrophic decision.”

It may seem like a wrong move now, but football matches are simply luxuries the medical system cannot afford right now. So maybe let’s wait to see how it pans out in other countries before calling it a catastrophic decision?
