Liverpool been beaten to the signing of Paris Saint-Germain full-back Lucas Digne by Serie A side Roma, a deal which could affect Manchester United.

Reds gaffer Brendan Rodgers is a known admirer of the 22-year-old left-back, who has been dropped by PSG inside this summer transfer window.

Rodgers wants to bolster his defensive options before the transfer window closes, despite his side keeping three clean sheets so far this campaign.

Italian giants Roma have come into the deal and agreed season-long loan deal for the France international, believed to be worth around ÂŁ1.1million, say Gazzetta dello Sport.

The former Lille star has agreed personal terms with Roma and is due to have a medical today before the deal gets finalised.

The transfer is not just a bitter blow to the Reds, it affects their rivals Manchester United as well…

Ligue 1 champions PSG are now favourites to sign Real Madrid’s out-of-favour left-back Fabio Coentrao, who was at the top of Louis van Gaal’s transfer target list.

The Portugal international is allowed to leave the Bernabeu as new boss Rafael Benitez looks to bring in a bundle of players before deadline day.

The 27-year-old has been on the Red Devils’ radar for a while, with United monitoring the former Benfica star for the past two campaigns but they have already failed to sign defenders Sergio Ramos and Pepe from the Spanish giants this term.

French side PSG are now expected to have the Coentrao deal announced within the next week, while they will receive ÂŁ11million if the deal is made permanent.
