Liverpool Football Club have announced the signing of Southampton centre-back Dejan Lovren.

The defender becomes the third player this Summer to make the switch from Southampton to Liverpool, following in Rickie Lambert’s and Adam Lallana’s footsteps, and it’s a deal which will see The Saints pocket ÂŁ20million.

The 25-year-old Croatian international has put pen-to-paper this evening and signed a long-term deal at the club after completing his medical earlier today.

Speaking to Liverpool’s official website, Lovren had this to say:

“It’s a dream come true. I’m happy and glad to be here. I’m proud and can’t wait to start. I know we have millions and millions of supporters – Liverpool is more than a club.

“After I played at Anfield last season, I said to myself: ‘One day I hope I’ll be able to play here for Liverpool’. The fans will know from the first minute that I’m a player that will give 100 per cent on the pitch.”

Lovren is Liverpool’s fifth Summer signing, and after the news that Loic Remy failed his medical, it will be a positive not for the red side of Merseyside.
