Liverpool is once again making waves for its serious interest in acquiring Youssouf Fofana, the explosive midfielder from AS Monaco. Rumours of this probable transfer have been floating for a time, and they’ve recently gained steam in the football rumour market.
Fofana, a great performer in France, is no stranger to Premier League admirers. Both Arsenal and West Ham United were connected with the 24-year-old midfielder earlier this year, but no deal was made during the summer transfer window. Now, as the January transfer window approaches and Fofana’s contract expires, Liverpool has joined the list of clubs interested in this bright talent.
Former Arsenal captain, Cesc Fabregas had previously backed Fofana as a player who may succeed at Anfield.
He said at the time: “When I came (Monaco), Thierry (Henry) and Vadim (Vasilyev) also asked me to help grow the young people. It was an important point. Today, I feel like I have won the respect and sympathy of this younger generation.
“I hope I have helped. We like each other. I will continue to follow them, exchange with them. I would like to see (Youssouf) Fofana, (Sofiane) Diop or (Aurelien) Tchouameni at Bayern or Liverpool!”
Fofana’s presence in the middle of the park has not gone ignored, given to his aggressive and all-action style. He has continuously impressed in Ligue 1 this season, contributing both defensively and offensively with three assists.
While Fofana’s future is unknown, it is almost inevitable that he will join a bigger club in the near future, with Liverpool being a strong possibility.
