Marcelo Pitaluga, a promising Liverpool goalkeeper who has never played for the Reds, has received an unexpected international call-up. The 20-year-old has been named to Brazil’s current under-23 squad for the pre-qualifying competition for the 2024 Olympic Games in January, marking a huge milestone in his short career.

Pitaluga, who has yet to earn a cap for Brazil at any level, has been excellent as Liverpool’s under-21 defense this season. He has demonstrated his abilities by allowing only six goals in three games and keeping three clean sheets. The feat was not lost on his colleague and teammate, Alisson Becker, one of the world’s top goalkeepers, who hailed Pitaluga as “really special.”

This international call-up reflects Pitaluga’s dedication and hard work behind the scenes at Liverpool. He has a wonderful opportunity to establish his value and gain a position in the Brazil under-23 squad for the Olympic qualifiers in Venezuela early next year when he joins the Brazil under-23 squad for their training camp in Sao Paulo.

Pitaluga’s ambition of representing his country on the grand stage may soon become a reality, with the top two teams going to the main event in Paris. Liverpool supporters are surely delighted to watch this young talent build a name for himself not only in club football but also on the international stage.
