Shaqiri admitted last month he was ready to quit Bayern after failing to establish himself as a first-team regular since the arrival of Pep Guardiola as manager last summer.

Liverpool, lodged a ÂŁ15m bid for Shaqiri last week with manager Brendan Rodgers intent on bolstering his squad ahead of a return to the Champions League next season.

And according to reports in Shaqiri’s native Switzerland, Liverpool are close to clinching his signature.

Manchester United have previously shown interest in Shaqiri, capped 32 times by Switzerland, but his desire to play in the Champions League means he has ruled out a potential switch to Old Trafford.

If the 22-year-old completes a switch to Anfield, he would become Liverpool’s third summer signing following the arrivals of Southampton forward Rickie Lambert and Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Emre Can.

Rodgers is also hopeful of completing a ÂŁ18m deal for Sevilla left-back Alberto Moreno.

An initial offer of ÂŁ16.2m plus midfielder Suso was rejected by Sevilla.

The Europa League winners made it clear they had no interest in acquiring Suso and demanded an extra ÂŁ1.8m to allow Moreno to leave the club, which Liverpool have agreed to pay.

However a ÂŁ25m deal for England midfielder Adam Lallana remains in the balance, with Southampton desperately trying to prevent an exodus of their star players.
