Liverpool could face horror Champions League group stage

Many Liverpool fans will be over the mood with the return of Champions League football to Anfield, but due to their absence in the tournament since 2009, their ranking in the competition has dropped massively, so much so, they could face a ‘group of death’ situation when the draw is made.

Despite winning the competition five-times in their history, not being in the competition for so many years has meant their ranking in the Uefa’s coefficient table has dropped to 32nd place, which would see him place into pot-three for the group-stage draw.

Being in pot-three means they are likely to face two very hard opponents from across Europe, and the worst case scenario could see them line up against Bayern Munich and Juventus, who are in pot-one and pot-two respectively.

They will at least get one off the big teams from pot-one, so they could be up against FC Barcelona or Real Madrid as well, but Brendan Rodgers will know that it might be a tough ‘welcome back’ present from Europe’s top competition.
