Liverpool have confirmed goalkeeper Loris Karius has joined Besiktas on a two year loan deal. The German keeper had been the first choice keeper last season but a string of mistakes paved the way for £65m  rated Alisson Becker who joined the club from AS Roma this summer.

Karius spent most the last season as the first choice keeper at Anfield but his awful display in the Champions League final pointed out the need of a new custodian in the Merseyside.

Liverpool are entitled to receive in the tune of ÂŁ9m should the deal become permanent in future. In addition, there is also a 20 percent sell-on clause included in the contract.

Karius’ departure means Simon Mignolet may have another chance to win back the trust of Jurgen Klopp. The Belgian international is expected to be Alisson’s understudy for the remainder of the season.

Karius appeared in 49 matches for the Reds since his move from German side Mainz in 2016. Liverpool issued a statement: “Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius has joined Turkish side Besiktas on a two-year loan deal.

“Everybody at LFC wishes Loris the best of luck during his loan spell.”
