Liverpool are plotting a possible £25 million double deal for Xherdan Shaqiri and Paco Alcacer

The Daily Express suggest that despite spending £16 million on Mario Balotelli in the summer, the under-fire Brendan Rodgers will be given January funds in order to salvage Liverpool’s season, which appears to be sinking in a similar fashion to the ships on the Mersey.

Balotelli hasn’t netted a Premier League goal since replacing Luis Suarez in the summer, with Liverpool desperate to find luck in-front of goal.

And the Anfield club have set their sites on Bayern Munich’s Xherdan Shaqiri and Valencia’s Paco Alcacer to bolster their forward line.

Shaqiri has been deemed surplus to requirements at the Allianz Arena, and has been told he can leave the Bundesliga title holders, with Liverpool keen to do a £16 million deal.

21-year-old Alcacer has impressed for Spanish side Valencia, and is set to see his £14 million release clause matched by the Reds, who are leading the pack for several suitors.
