Chelsea and Manchester United told to pay just £20 million for Raphael Varane

Chelsea and Manchester United have been told they must pay £20 million to sign Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane.

The French international has struggled to nail down a first team spot under Carlo Ancelotti, and reports in Spain say Los Blancos will let him leave for just £20 million.

Portuguese defender Pepe is set to be given a bumper new contract, and the club are ready to back home grown talent Nacho over Varane.

Chelsea may have an advantage over United in securing Varane’s services, with Jose Mourinho having previously worked with him in the Spanish capital.

Mourinho has previously described Varane as the ‘best young defender in the world’.
