Reds table improved offer of ÂŁ12.5million

Liverpool Football Club are on the verge of signing a sixth player this summer, with Southampton’s Nathaniel Clyne set to arrive at Anfield in the next few weeks.

The Reds have already been busy in the window despite it not yet officially being open, signing five players ahead of the July 1 opening date.

Active Summer

James Milner, Danny Ings and Adam Bogdan all arrived on free transfers from their respective clubs, whilst Brendan Rodgers decided to fork out ÂŁ3.5million on Joe Gomez from Charlton Athletic and then ÂŁ29million on Roberto Firmino from Hoffenheim.

Despite already signing five players, Rodgers now wants to add a right-back and a striker to his squad, and it looks like the former is close to being done.

Focus Turns to Clyne

Liverpool have already had a ÂŁ10m bid rejected by Saints for Clyne, but according to reports, they are set to launch a fresh offer of around ÂŁ12.5m which could be deemed acceptable by Ronald Koeman.

Rodgers is desperate to bring in Clyne as he lacks options in the right-back department.

Glen Johnson was released after his contract expired, Javier Manquillo could be sent back to Atletico Madrid after a failed loan-spell and Jon Flanagan is still sidelined with an injury.

Clyne Replacement

To add further fuel to the speculation, Southampton went out and brought themselves a right-back last week as Cedric Soares arrived from Sporting Lisbon as a potential replacement for the outgoing Clyne.

The England international only has 12 months left on his contract, so it’s thought Southampton will try and cash in on him now, rather than risk losing him on a free this time next year.

If Liverpool can secure the deal for Clyne, he would become the fourth player to swap St Marys for Anfield in the past year, following Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren and Rickie Lambert.
