Aston Villa willing to do business

Liverpool and Aston Villa are set to open talks regarding a potential deal for Belgium striker Christian Benteke.

The 24-year-old is expected to leave Villa Park this Summer after spending two seasons in the Midlands, and it’s widely reported that he could be on his way to Anfield.

Villa will Allow Move

Earlier this season, Tim Sherwood admitted that if Benteke wanted to leave, the club would not stand in his way, but would only sell if they felt the offer was good enough.

Villa reportedly value the striker at around ÂŁ30million, a fee which Liverpool are prepared to pay in order to help strengthen their attacking options.

Liverpool’s Attacking Woes

The Reds have struggled for goals this term and have failed to replace Luis Suarez, who left to join FC Barcelona last Summer. As well as losing Suarez, they’ve also had Daniel Sturridge on the sidelines for the majority of the season with injury problems.

What’s worse for Liverpool is the fact they could face losing Raheem Sterling as well this Summer. The winger has told the club that he won’t be penning a new contract and wants to leave in order to compete for trophies on a regular basis.

Sterling has two years left on his current contract, but Brendan Rodgers believes he will honour his deal despite that meaning the club risk losing him for nothing in two years time.

As for strikers, Liverpool will desperately try to offload Rickie Lambert, Fabio Borini and Mario Balotelli this Summer after the trio all failed to impress at Anfield this season.

The lack of goals between the three of them are a real problem for Rodgers and it will be the first thing he changes over the pre-season.

Between the four strikers, they only managed seven goals, whilst Benteke has scored 11 goals in his last 11 games for Villa.
