Kovacic is one of Europe’s highly rated youngsters since establishing himself as a key Inter player after his move from Dinamo Zagreb.
However despite a string of impressive performances for the Milan side, Kovacic has been left out of the squad in recent weeks with rumours of a fall out with the manager Walter Mazzari, a possibility. For this reason, Kovacic is likely to be looking for a club come the summer and Liverpool are said to be ready to pounce.
The 19 year old’s agent has refused this week to confirm talks are happening, but did say that his client was unhappy at the San Siro telling journalists: “Everybody is confused as to why Mateo is not playing.
“Is there a row with Mazzarri I can’t say a lot, but he is not happy.”
This news alerted the Merseyside club, who are reportedly long admirers of the talented youngster and manager Brenden Rodgers is keen to push an £8m bid.
It is belived that the Reds are to make the bid before the World Cup in an attempt to get Kovacic’s signature sorted before he travels to Brazil for the tournament.
Premier League sides such as Arsenal and Tottenham have also been linked with Kovacic due to his superb passing ability and excellent engine.
