AS Roma want to sign Frenchman on season-long loan

Liverpool have rejected an offer from AS Roma to take Mamadou Sakho on a season-long loan for the forthcoming campaign.

The French defender is a target of the Serie A side, but they want to take him on a temporary basis first, before potentially making it a permanent deal this time next year.

However, The Reds have rejected the loan offer and have told Sakho that he is staying at Anfield and will have to fight for his first-team place.

Sakho Left Out

Sakho didn’t play for Liverpool during their first game of the season against Stoke City, and that sparked interest from Roma, who are keen on adding a centre-back to their squad.

Despite not being included last weekend during the Premier League opener, Brendan Rodgers has told the French international that he must stay and fight for a first-team spot.

Dejan Lovren and Martin Skrtel was the duo that Rodgers went with for the game against Stoke, and with Sakho missing part of pre-season due to personal reasons, he may be considered behind in training.
