Liverpool have denied the chance to sign Monaco’s Thomas Lemar due to his hefty £100m price tag and are now pursuing American ace Christian Pulisic according to reports.

The Reds are in the market for an attacking player following the departure of Philippe Coutinho and have the money to splash the cash on his replacement.

However, Liverpool have turned down the chance to sign Thomas Lemar from Monaco due to his hefty price tag and are now targeting Borussia Dortmund winger Christian Pulisic instead.

Journalist Duncan Castles has said that Liverpool are keen on Pulisic because he’s American and his age- he’s 19-years-old.

Castles said: “He’s about the same age, similar skill set, but the additional attraction of being American.

“And Fenway Sports Group have been trying to get an American footballer into the Liverpool squad since they took over the club.

“And they may have finally found one who has the ability to be a proper Premier League player.

“Whether they are able to get him ahead of other rivals is another matter.”

The 19-year-old has made 20 appearances for the United States national team and has scored nine goals.

The promising winger has also made 55 appearances for Borussia Dortmund, which is astonishing for his age, and has scored eight goals.

Pulisic joined Dortmund at 16-years-old in 2015 from PA Classics and played for the Dortmund U17 and U19 youth teams before making the jump to the senior team in 2016.
