Liverpool to check on Seydou Doumbia

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has ordered his scouts to check on CSKA Moscow striker Seydou Doumbia in their match against Bayern Munich on Wednesday evening.

The Ivorian was in contract talks with CSKA about extending his current deal in Russia, however Liverpool will hope to snatch the striker should talks break down and he impresses on Wednesday night.

Liverpool are in the market for a forward having not replaced Luis Suarez as well as they would’ve wished, with Mario Balotelli struggling for goals and Daniel Sturridge picking up a couple of recent injuries.

Former CSKA manager Valery Gazzaev was full of praise for the striker, saying he’d be a big hit in England.

”I think Seydou could be on of the best strikers in the Premier League.

”Throughout his time at CSKA he has demonstrated his scoring instincts. Maybe he doesn’t have the best technical ability, but when it comes to the ability to score, he is one of the best.

”Seydou’s movement is great and he plays well both on and off the ball – an important feature for a striker.”

Doumbia’s contract runs until 2016 in Moscow so they may have to cash in soon should they be unable to extend his deal.
