Liverpool can get their hands on Remy, who has also been eyed up by Arsenal, by paying his £8.5m release clause. Other clubs that aren’t in the Champions League have to pay a sum towards £12m.

It’s understood that Kop chiefs consider Remy a far better value option than Bony, who is valued by Swansea at around £20m.

The Gunners were happy to pay the price in Remy’s QPR contract but his £80,000-a-week wage demands reportedly ruined his chances of moving to the Emirates.

Boss Harry Redknapp has given Liverpool hope of snapping him up by revealing he doesn’t expect the striker to stay at Loftus Road.

‘I think he really wants to play Champions League football next year somewhere,” Redknapp told talkSPORT.

“We gave him time off after the World Cup but I think he’s really looking to move. I would be surprised if he was at QPR at the start of the year.

“If he goes to the right team, he’s capable of scoring 15 to 20 Premier League goals next season.”

Remy spent last season on loan at Newcastle and netted 14 goals.
