The Reds are reportedly unhappy with their current goalkeeping situation as Simon Mignolet’s form has been poor all season and Brad Jones is deemed not up to scratch; this could see them move for ter Stegen on-loan or permanently.

The Merseyside club would have to move fast to land the ’keeper, who is unhappy at his lack of league action in Catalonia, before Monday’s deadline.

Ter Stegen has been used in cup competitions and the Champions League but wants to feature in La Liga for the Spanish giants.

“For now, the manager counts on me for the Cup and Champions League, but I’d like to play in the league. I want La Liga, even if Bravo is doing a good job.”

The £17 million-rated goalkeeper is currently number two to Claudio Bravo in the Barcelona goal despite the £9.7 million transfer fee paid for him in the summer.

“The situation is difficult. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t care and it isn’t easy being a spectator.

“I want to be the No. 1 so it’s something I will fight for.”

The former Borussia Monchengladbach ‘keeper is one of the most highly-rated keeper in the world and is contracted in Spain until 2019.
