Liverpool want Milner to replace Gerrard

Liverpool have set their sights on Manchester City star, James Milner, as they search for a replacement for long-serving captain, Steven Gerrard.

The Englishman has announced he will be joining MLS side, LA Galaxy in the Summer, ending his over a decade association with Liverpool, and it’s now down to the board and Brendan Rodgers to find a suitable replacement.

According to reports, Rodgers and the board have already put together a brief list of potential replacements for the 34-year-old, and it’s believed that Milner is high on that list, with his contract set to expire at the Etihad Stadium.

Milner, who has been a fringe player for most of his time at City, is finally starting to get a run in the first-team, but with his contract expiring in June, he could be set to leave the champions for free.

Officials from the Etihad are keen for the Englishman to sign an extension, but Milner himself is still worried about his game-time, meaning he has snubbed any chance to pen a new deal as of yet.

Liverpool are closely monitoring the 29-year-old’s contract discussions with City and will make a swoop in the Summer if nothing has been finalised.
