The Frenchman is a key figure for both club and country

Real Madrid have identified Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris as their first choice goalkeeper target, after failing to land Manchester United’s David De Gea last summer.

The Frenchman has been identified as the man they want between the posts, as Keylor Navas’ future at the Santiago Bernabeu continues to come under threat, with Real prepared to offer £35 million for Lloris.

A move for United ‘keeper De Gea, fell through at the end of last summer’s transfer window, after Real failed to file the paperwork for the transfer in time.

Lloris, 29, who was signed by Tottenham from Lyon in 2012 for £10 million, insists he is happy at White Hart Lane, working under Argentinian Mauricio Pochettino, after admitting back in April that he would have left the club, if he wasn’t appointed as boss.

But with the former Lyon man happy with life in north London, after challenging Leicester City for the title for most of the season, Real will face a tough job in acquiring their no.1 target, who is set to be offered a new deal at the club.

It was announced prior to the European Championships that Spurs would open talks over a new deal for the ‘keeper, despite him having three years still to run on his current contract.

And those talks will continue once Lloris returns from international duty with France, who play Iceland on Sunday evening in their quarter-final fixture.

Tottenham are well aware of the threat Real pose, and are keen to sort Lloris’ future, after seeing their star man, Gareth Bale, leave for a world record fee to the Spanish capital several years ago.

Spurs don’t want a repeat of those events, as they look to develop further next season and challenge for the Premier League title.

A potential move for Lloris to Real Madrid would see him link up with fellow Frenchman, Zinedine Zidane, who is now in charge at the club.
