United are prepared to pay a world record fee for the Frenchman

Manchester United are prepared to make the biggest signing of the summer transfer window by offering a world-record £100 million to land the services of their former academy star Paul Pogba.

It is a remarkable u-turn in the relationship between the Red Devils and the France international, after United let the youngster leave for Juventus back in 2012.

However, Jose Mourinho is so keen for the Juve midfielder to return to Old Trafford that Old Trafford bosses are ready to break the bank in order to acquire Pogba, who is also being targeted by Real Madrid.

But media reports suggest that Real have cooled their interest in Pogba, in recent weeks, and will instead target a cheaper option in Leicester City’s N’Golo Kante, who will cost around £20 million.

Pogba is understood to prefer a move to the Santiago Bernabeu, after having already being snubbed by United, early in his career, under the leadership of Sir Alex Ferguson.

But with Eric Bailly, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan already through the doors at Old Trafford, Mourinho’s team are hoping that their signings of intent this summer are enough to persuade the France midfielder to rejoin the club.

The Red Devils will ship out Juan Mata, seemingly to Everton, in order to make space for Paul Pogba to return to the club, as United aim for a return to Champions League football and challenging for the Premier League title.
