FC Barcelona star Luis Suarez has revealed that it was Steven Gerrard that advised him not to join Arsenal.
The Uruguayan star was heavily linked with a move from Liverpool to Arsenal, and after The Gunners launched a formal bid for the controversial figure, it looked like a transfer could be on the cards.
However, no deal was completed and Suarez eventually stayed at Anfield before joining Barca a year later.
When talking about the proposed move to Arsenal, Suarez admitted that it was a conversation with Gerrard that prevented him from joining Arsenal.
“For all his experience and what that means; Gerrard,” Suarez told Spanish radio station Cadena COPE.
“He taught me a lot, helped me make decisions, when I thought I was doing things wrong, he helped me realise I was right. He knew a lot about football.
“When I had the chance to join Arsenal, he told me not to.
“Gestures like that from him really helped me a lot.”
