Manchester City regret not signing Alexis

Manchester City manager, Manuel Pellegrini, has revealed he wanted to sign Alexis Sanchez from FC Barcelona over the Summer, but couldn’t afford to due to Financial Fair Play rules.

The Chilean international eventually joined Arsenal in a deal worth ÂŁ32million, and since then, he has quickly paid back that price-tag with his superb level of performances.

Many are saying Alexis is currently the Premier League’s best player, and with a tricky tie at the Etihad awaiting Arsenal on Sunday, Pellegrini has revealed that he wanted to sign the winger before The Gunners did, but couldn’t due to finances.

“It was not easy,” said Pellegrini. “He was very expensive and, when Barcelona sold him to Arsenal, we still had four strikers.

“Alexis is young, enthusiastic and improving. I am very happy he is repeating in England what he did for Barcelona.”

Alexis has already scored against City this season during the 2-2 draw at the Emirates Stadium earlier in the season.
