Stones has fallen down the pecking order in last few months

Manchester City will not sell defender John Stones this summer, according to the Manchester Evening News. He has struggled to get a regular run in the team since January and this let to reports that he will be available in the summer transfer Window.

Stones started off the season well and one of the regular starters for the team but his hamstring injury brought his progress to a halt. In his absence, Vincent Kompany established himself back to the starting XI and also as an leader for the team.

Nicolas Otamendi also has been performing brilliantly and with the £57 million arrival of Aymeric Laporte from Athletic Bilbao in the January transfer window, Stones is now the fourth choice for the Manchester City.

The 24 year old struggled to get his form back since his return from initial injury, he has just made two starts and one substitute appearance since the end of the January.

But City still considers the centre back a crucial part of their future and have no intention to sell him in the summer, sources close to the club have told. Even Pep Guradiola recently claimed that he is  ‘an extraordinary player’.

Stones joined City from Everton for a fee of £47 million in in the summer of 2016.
