Manchester United have reportedly fallen out of the race to sign Juventus star Paul Pogba as they eye AS Roma’s Kevin Strootman instead.
The Red Devils have been long-term admirers of Strootman and have wanted to sign him since the Sir Alex Ferguson days, but due to injuries and difference in opinions, the Dutchman has never completed a switch to Old Trafford.
However, with Louis Van Gaal now in charge and the midfielder seemingly over his injury woes, a move could finally happen this Summer.
Van Gaal wanted to bring Strootman with him to United last season, but a serious injury earlier in the year prevented him from completing a switch. However, the new United boss admitted that he would continue to track the midfielder and monitor his recovery.
With the end of the season near, United are already putting together a transfer wishlist, and according to reports Strootman is topping the list rather then former-Red Devil, Pogba.
According to Manchester Evening News, Van Gaal would rather sign Strootman than Pogba but only if the former can prove his fitness.
