Manchester United Face UEFA Action

As they recover from the heartbreaking defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League knockout round, Manchester United’s problems have been compounded with UEFA initiating disciplinary action against the club for multiple breaches in the game at Old Trafford. The game, marred by controversy, after United’s Nani was sent off saw United’s Manager Sir Alex Ferguson not showing up for the post match press conference because he was ‘distraught’. His deputy Mike Phelan took his place. Now UEFA is taking action over United’s “non-fulfilment of post-match media obligations” as well as reviewing Nani’s red card offence and whether it merits a ban more than the automatic one match ban that a red card brings in the Champions League. This is a double whammy for the club who are aggreived that Nani was given an unfair red card in the first place. UEFA maintains “There are no issues for us regarding the sending off.”
