Manchester United have opened formal talks with Atletico Madrid winger Arda Turan, but may face serious competition from mega-rich AS Monaco.
The Turkish international was a crucial part of Madrid’s La Liga winning team last season, and has been scouted by United heavily over the last 18-months, and after seeing him star in Madrid’s superb season, a formal bid is expected to be made this Summer.
According to reports in France, United officials have flown to Spain in order to hold talk with representatives of Turan and also Madrid, and they are both keen to discuss a potential deal, which could be around £32million.
The 27-year-old has a release clause in his contract, which stands at £32m, and Madrid are set to ask for any interest to match his release clause if they want to sign the winger.
However, both United and Monaco only see his worth at half of that, around £16m, and that could prevent any potential deal taking place this Summer.
Premier League duo Liverpool and Arsenal were also interested in landing the Turkish man, but were both put off by his release clause.
