Manchester United to launch £30m move

Manchester United are finally set to make a formal bid for Real Madrid centre-back Raphael Varane.

The Frenchman has been strongly linked with a move away from the Bernabeu with United and also Chelsea interested, but neither side made formal moves last Summer or over January.

However, with Varane’s first-team opportunities still limited in Spain, the French international could finally be set to leave the club after holding talks with Carlo Ancelotti.

According to reports, Louis Van Gaal has urged the United board to make a formal move for the centre-back, and make sure they fend off interest from rivals by offering more than what’s already been suggested.

Varane is valued at around £25million, but Van Gaal has told the club to go as high as £30m in order to beat Chelsea to the signing.

However, Varane’s pick chance at Madrid came under Jose Mourinho, so a chance to reunite with ‘the special one’ could be a reason why a move to Stamford Bridge is more likely.
