Manchester United are set to offer Dutch striker Robin van Persie a new two year contract.
Van Persie enjoyed a fruitful first season at Old Trafford, followed by an injury-hit one last term.
This season, both the forward and the club have struggled for form.
This has led to the Dutchman’s future at the club being called into question, with the striker linked with moves to Turkey and his native Holland.
But United manager Louis van Gaal remains a big fan of the player he managed at this summer’s World Cup in Brazil.
United would not want to run the risk of Van Persie’s contract expiring, which is due at the end of this season, and him possibly leaving the club for nothing.
But any new deal would likely involve a reduction on his current wages, of £250,000 per week.
