Manchester United have been told that it will cost them £79million to sign AS Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman.

United manager Louis Van Gaal, is a massive fan of the Dutch midfielder after they worked together on the international scene, and he reportedly wants to bring him to Old Trafford once he returns from injury.

Strootman suffered a serious knee injury at the end of last season, which ruled him out of the World Cup, and he is set to be sidelined until Autumn at the earliest, which means Van Gaal will only consider making a January move if Strootman’s recovery is progressing.

However, Roma boss, Rudi Garcia, has warned Van Gaal that it will cost him mega-bucks in order to reunite with the midfielder.

‘What can I say about the rumours (about Strootman joining United)….

‘Maybe after a three-digit offer (i.e. 100 million euros/£79million), then we will sit down and think about it.’

Garcia’s side faced Manchester United last night in America and fell to a 3-2 defeat thanks to a brace from Wayne Rooney and a lovely chip from Juan Mata.
