Leading agent reveals Red Devils tried everything possible

Manchester United were desperate to sign Bayern Munich star Thomas Muller over the summer, according to a leading football agent.

The Red Devils were keen on strengthening their squad yet again over the summer by spending big, and Louis van Gaal‘s main target was the German World Cup winner.

According to reports, United set aside ÂŁ71million for the forward, but were told no when Muller refused to leave the Allianz Arena.

Speaking in a Q&A session for Italian website calciomercato.com, Giovanni Branchini, revealed that United were trying everything to secure a deal for Munich star.

United Wanted Muller

He said: “Manchester United wanted Thomas Muller at all costs

“I spent days trying to explain Bayern Munich would never let him leave – so in the end they changed their mind.”

England’s Financial Powers

Branchini was a key agent in getting Cristiano Ronaldo from Sporting Lisbon to Manchester United, so he knows a lot of inside information from Old Trafford due to previous business deals.

The agent the continued to discuss the Premier League‘s financial powers across Europe and revealed that the likes of Sunderland and Aston Villa could easily spend as much as Italian giants Juventus and AC Milan.

“English football is growing up very fast and it’s not good for Italian football,” he added.

“For example, it could be more and more complicated to buy not only the biggest stars like Neymar but the second or third level too.

“At this moment Sunderland or Aston Villa can spend as well as Juventus or Milan do, because of the TV rights.”
