Manchester United playmaker Juan Mata has admitted that he was lucky his goal was not ruled out for offside on the weekend.

The Spaniard has revealed how he watched back footage of the game and admits that his goal should never of stood, after the player nodded in a flick from Robin Van Persie at the back post to put United 2-0 up against Liverpool.

“Personally, I was fortunate to score again,” Mata wrote in his blog One Hour Behind

“To be honest, I watched the footage and it’s true that I’m offside after Robin’s header.

“That is something you don’t realise when you are on the pitch. Anyway, we scored two more goals and that reinforces our victory.”

Mata also took time to note the excellence performance from David De Gea, who was the Man of the Match during Sunday’s 3-0 victory.

He added: “He is in top form. Everybody’s praising him and now we have to keep working so we don’t need so many saves from him in the next few games; we have to get better in that regard.

“David gives us complete confidence. Liverpool created chances and they didn’t score because of him.”
