Italian striker Mattia Destro said “there was no convincing needed” to join AC Milan over Arsenal.

Destro signed an initial £520,000 loan deal, with a view to a permanent move.

Arsenal were eager to sign the 23 year old in the transfer window just gone, but weren’t willing to match Roma’s selling price.

Destro has said a contributing factor to him staying in Italy was how Milan approached him.

“Milan are Milan, there was no convincing needed,” he said.

“I want to do well, and this is the perfect place to do it.

“There were a lot of things which were important in me coming here, but I think [joint CEO Adriano] Galliani’s gesture is the thing that meant the most to me.

“When they told me, I was in disbelief, it’s nice that he came to Rome to meet me.

“He’s a very important person in the world of football, and it’s good that he’d do something like that for me.”
