AS Roma striker, Mattia Destro, has moved a step closer to moving to Arsenal after his representatives flew to England in order to hold talks with the North London club.

The Italian international was strongly linked with a switch to the Premier League over the Summer, with Arsenal joined by Chelsea in the race to land the £23million-rated star, but nothing materialised and he remained in Rome.

However, according to reports, representatives of Destro have flown to London in order to hold official talks with Arsenal regarding a potential deal in January.

It’s believed that Arsene Wenger wants to add a third striker to the squad in order to aid Danny Welbeck and Olivier Giroud, and Destro is high on the Frenchman’s list.

Earlier on in the season, Destro was questioned about the interest from Arsenal and Chelsea, and he admitted that it flatters him to have clubs interested.

‘Arsenal for me? The rumours are good, I’m happy for them.

‘This is the proof that I’m doing my work well.’
