Mauricio Pochettino has showered massive praises on Tottenham Hotspur players following their slender 1-0 win over Newcastle United at Wembley.

Heung-Min Son once again came to the rescue of his side as his 83rd-minute winner proved to be the difference between the two teams. The win has taken to second place behind Liverpool but Manchester City will have the chance to surpass them when they take on Arsenal in a crucial Premier League game.

Despite a number of injury concerns Spurs managed to hang on in the Premier League race so far and for two consecutive games they managed to register victories in the dying minutes.

Pochettino said, “Our squad deserve massive, massive credit. We are disappointed because of the semi-final of the Carabao Cup, out of the FA Cup to Palace, we arrive at the worst moment for us as it was difficult to rotate and keep the same level in all of the different decisive games.

“It’s true we were always positive, we fight, but we could not achieve the final or the next stage of the FA Cup, but in the Premier League with two victories against Watford and Newcastle. We are now in a good position, waiting for the Champions League too is very exciting.

“A tough game because Newcastle, after they beat Manchester City, were in a good momentum with a lot of energy, more recovery and fresher legs.

“We play in the semi-final, play Sunday, play Wednesday and then today, early in the morning, so I think it was tough for us to recover from the efforts.

“Fantastic effort, I am so happy with the players, because I think they showed the character we have, so I am so pleased.”
