Manchester United star had major fall-out with his father
Manchester United forward Memphis Depay refuses to have his surname on the back of his shirt due to a fall-out he had with his father when he was a child, but his Dad wants to make amends and has asked for his forgiveness.Â
Eyebrows were raised when Depay chose to have ‘Memphis‘ on the back of his shirt rather than his surname like usual footballers. However, it was then revealed that it was down to a fall-out he had with his Dad when he was a child.
Depay claims his Dad left him and his family when he was just four-years old, and the two have never made amends since.
Now 21-years-old, the United star still has nothing to do with his father, but in a recent interview, Dennis has asked to be part of his son’s life once again.
Memphis’ Dad Speaks Out
Speaking to the Sun his father Dennis said: “Saying that I didn’t see him after he was four is a lie. It is unbelievable, it is not nice. He is my son and I love him. I am the man who gave him his first ball.
“He was not abandoned by me. That is not true. I was always there for him.
“I saw him on YouTube talking about his dad, saying he didn’t want to put my name on his back. It made me feel terrible.
“I would love to be back in touch with him. I miss him so much.”
