Monaco are ready to lock horns with Atletico Madrid and attempt to beat the Spanish team to the signing of Chelsea flop Fernando Torres.

With Atletico selling star man Diego Costa to Chelsea earlier this week, the Spanish side are still hoping to secure a deal to bring Torres to the club as a replacement.

But it is understood that talks between the two clubs have not been progressing smoothly, allowing Moncao to emerge as new favourites for the Spanish forward.

Monaco have recently sold star playmaker James Rodriguez to Real Madrid, and are ready to splash the cash on buliding a new-look force next season.

With the potential departure of Falcao aswell, Torres has been identified as the most capable to lead the line for the French team as they hope to challenge for the Ligue 1 title.

Reports yesterday suggested Atletico were not willing to meet Chelsea’s £13m asking price for the forward, for whom the Blues forked out £50m in January 2011.

However it now appears Chelsea actually want closer to ÂŁ20m for the former Liverpool man, with Monaco ready to meet their valuation.
