Mourinho: Christmas number one won’t decide champions

Jose Mourinho has pointed out that Manchester United are not yet out of the title race and adds that the Christmas number one won’t decide the champions.

United are in poor form and haven’t won a league match since early November, but Mourinho insists United are the only club who could recover from their current position. He said: “If it is another club I’ll tell you impossible. But with Manchester United I don’t say that because of the potential of the club, the culture, what it represents.”

But for Chelsea, being top at Christmas was not their ambition, as Mourinho said “Being top at Christmas doesn’t mean a lot. We want to play better, to improve collectively and individually, try to get results and try to be close to the top. Of course we want to fight for the title until the last moment.”

But their form has been called into question as they have conceded 6 goals in their last 2 matches following games against Sunderland and Stoke. So if The Blues are to challenge for the title, there are many parts of their squad that need improving.
