The Frenchman, who also had spells with Arsenal and Tottenham, played under Mourinho during the Portuguese’s first two seasons with Chelsea, winning two Premier League titles and the League Cup.
And Mourinho has claimed that Gallas’ versitility was a major factor in his success at Stamford Bridge.
“Fantastic player,” Mourinho spoke of the retired centre-back. “He’s the kind of player that when you have in your squad, instead of having 22, you have 24 or 25.
“He players right-back, left-back, central defender on the right and on the left.
“I don’t remember a William mistake, I just remember his untouchable performances.
“And now obviously he has to be very proud of his fantastic career and I wish him the best for the rest of his life.”
