Midfielder reveals club didn’t want to sell him

Newcastle United midfielder Moussa Sissoko has revealed the club blocked his departure over the summer.

The powerhouse midfielder was strongly linked with a move to Chelsea and Arsenal, but in a recent interview Sissoko has admitted that the club vetoed the decision and he was forced to stay put.

It’s not yet reported who made formal offers, but the midfielder has revealed offers were on the table until Steve McClaren blocked any possible transfer.

The 26-year-old has made no secret of his desire to play for a big club in the Champions League, and he has confirmed that offers were there from Premier League clubs and also clubs across Europe.

However, after holding talks with McClaren and co. they all decided that the midfielder had to stay put at St James’ Park.

Offers Tables

He said: “It could have been a good time to leave.

“There were clubs interested but Newcastle vetoed.

“They were against my departure so I stayed.

“What I miss is to play leading roles because I would like to play in the Champions League.”

European Championships

The midfielder then revealed that McClaren told him that staying put would be best option, especially if he wants to make the France national team for next summer’s Euros.

“The coach has said to me, ‘you have to be playing if you want to be picked.’

“I took that into account.

“I am in Newcastle but it is not a ‘big four’ club. Look at those who play for France in my position, compared to me, they all play for big clubs.

“I have ambitions but first I must think about having a good Euro 2016 which I hope to win with France.

“After that, I will have time to reflect on my future.”
