Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has revealed how delighted he is with midfielder Yohan Cabaye’s attitude after being a wanted-man this summer.

The Frenchman missed Newcastle’s opening game to Manchester City after it was revealed that Arsenal made a formal ÂŁ12million bid for the midfield-man just a day before the game.

After the 4-0 loss to City, Pardew revealed that Cabaye was not mentally prepared to play because of the transfer offer and then he refused to play for the side against West Ham United the following weekend, but since any move away from St James Park failed to materialise, according to the manager, Cabaye’s attitude has been brilliant and very professional.

“Yohan Cabaye stayed behind and has had a full week here,” Newcastle’s manager told the Chronicle. “He’s been able to get a lot of work done. His wife has just had a baby too.

“Yohan has just got on with his work and settled down. He’s getting on with the job in hand. He’s been terrific and he’s just got his head down to get on with life.”
