Brazil forward Neymar has lauded Gabriel Jesus’ effort as the youngster was back among the goals after a long period.

Jesus scored one as Brazil defeated a 10 man Saudi Arabia 2-0 in an international friendly. The 21 year old had been struggling for goals both for his club and country as his last goal came in the 6-1 thrashing of Huddersfield Town back in August.

Criticisms had been pouring in as the youngster couldn’t be able to justify his talent but this goal is expected to boost his confidence. Pep Guardiola has mostly preferred Sergio Aguero to lead his attack this season but with Jesus registering his names on the scoresheet he will be now vying for a place in the starting lineup.

Neymar said, “I was very happy to have assisted Gabriel Jesus.

“I think there was an unfair criticism on him, for all the work he did for us, for everything he asked for.

“In my view, they did a very great injustice with him. I was much happier that he scored a goal than if I had five.”

“We didn’t produce a great performance, but we were consistent

“There are even games in the World Cup that have to be like this, you do not present a great football, but you end up winning.

“We know of our potential. There are many changes, there is a little more understanding in the field.”
