Norwich City have confirmed the signing of  Steven Naismith from Everton, for a transfer fee understood to be in the region of £8m.

Naismith, who has agreed a three-and-a-half-year deal at his new club, departs Everton after almost four-years – having signed from Glasgow Rangers in the summer of 2012. During a prolonged stay on Merseyside, the Scotland international amassed over 100 appearances for the Toffees – netting 18 times.

Everton initially rejected a bid from Norwich for the player back in August, but have now allowed him to leave, with the 29-year-old  only starting four games in the league this season.

After completing his move to Carrow Road on Tuesday afternoon, Naismith said:  “I’m very happy to have signed because now I can concentrate on the football side of things.”

“Norwich have displayed class in the way they’ve done their business all the way through. They’ve shown how much they wanted me, which is great, and I’m delighted to be here.”

His new manager and compatriot, Alex Neil, added: “We are delighted to conclude this deal and bring Steven to the club. He’s a proven performer at Premier League level and an established international with Scotland so arrives with excellent pedigree.”

Naismith becomes the Canaries fifth signing of the January transfer window after Timm Klose, Matt Jarvis, Ivo Pinto and Ben Godfrey all completed moves to the Norfolk outfit earlier in the month, as Neil looks to bolster his squad for the rest of the campaign, with City currently 16th in the top-flight, two points above the bottom three, having accumulated 23 points from their 22 games to date.
