OFFICIAL: Lyon star joins Real Betis on 4-year deal

Real Betis have confirmed the signing of French winger Nabil Fekir from Olympique Lyon on a transfer fee reported to be €20 million.

The La Liga club announced on their official website that Fekir has signed a contract till 2023. Fekir was a graduate of Lyon’s youth setup and broke into the senior team in 2013. From 2013-2019, Fekir made 193 appearances for Les Gones, scoring 69 goals and providing 46 assists. He was the Ligue 1 Young Player of the Year in 2014/15 while being in the Ligue 1 Team of the Season for two seasons- 2014/15 and 2017/18. Fekir became Lyon captain in 2017 and led the club in two seasons.

Last season, the Frenchman scored 12 goals and provided 9 assists in 39 appearances across all competitions as Lyon finished third in Ligue 1.

The 26-year old has also made 21 appearances for the France national team, scoring 2 goals and providing 1 assist. He was a part of the France squad that won the FIFA World Cup in Russia last summer, featuring in 6 matches during the tournament, all as a substitute.

Last summer, Fekir was on the brink of a €60 million move to Liverpool but it collapsed at the eleventh hour. However, now, the Frenchman has made a move out of Lyon. With the presence of Fekir in the squad, Real Betis can surely improve upon their 10th place La Liga finish last season.
